Why Leave a Legacy with the Islamic Association of Lincoln (IAL)?

Can I leave something for charity in my will?

Leaving a gift to charity in your will is not only possible but encouraged as a final act of Sadaqah (charity) in Islam. The general Islamic ruling allows for up to one-third of your estate to be designated for charitable purposes, or more if you have no qualifying heirs.

In the UK, this choice also has significant financial benefits:

  • The gift itself is free from Inheritance Tax.
  • If you leave 10% or more of your ‘net estate’ to charity, it reduces the Inheritance Tax rate on the rest of your estate from 40% to 36% (please do take legal advice on this, however).

How You Can Contribute

  1. Renovate Orchard Street Mosque – Help preserve a house of Allah (ﷻ) for future worshippers.
  2. Donate Property – Transfer ownership to IAL, allowing rental income to fund essential projects such as:
    • Day-to-day running of both mosques
    • Daily congregational prayers
    • Quran and Islamic studies for children
    • Dawah and new Muslim support
    • Social activities for young boys and girls
  3. Build a Community Centre – The Association is working to develop a new community centre. You can support the development of a new mosque with a facility for sports, education, and a boarding school for youth.
  4. Invest in Commercial Property – Contribute towards purchasing assets that generate halal income for long-term sustainability.
